 BOMBALA, New South Wales

Bombala is 480km south of Sydney, 89km south of Cooma and 94km from the coast on the Monaro Highway.

TRANQUILITY IN THE MIDDLE OF EVERYTHING

Nestled between the Snowy Mountains and beautiful Sapphire Coast is a hidden rural treasure that is ideal for a quiet weekend away or short holiday.

Just two hours south of Canberra, Bombala and its neighbouring town, Delegate, are set amidst stunning natural scenery, abundant wildlife and rolling pastures that give visitors the feeling that nothing has really changed since the pioneering days.

Few towns in Australia can boast platypus in the town centre, yet a quiet evening stroll along the Bombala riverbank will often reward the visitor with a sighting of these extremely shy and unique creatures.

Bombala also features an interesting mixture of environments within close proximity. The treeless plains of the Monaro, rainforests of the Errinundra Plateau and dense native forests combine to create a curiously peaceful and serene atmosphere. In fact, that is the overriding ambience of the district. It has that 'miles from care' atmosphere and a tranquil timelessness that is immediately relaxing.

The region also boasts some of the best trout fishing in mainland Australia and as such, there are several accommodation houses that place keen anglers only metres from the river. Flyfishing tuition or guidance is also available.

The overall range of accommodation options include farmstays, log cabins and motels that cater for different tastes and budgets. Most of these are also designed to maximise the area's sleepy atmosphere.

Bombala's location halfway between Sydney and Melbourne has long made it a popular 'break stop' but more and more people are wisely extending their 'break' to visit the forests, see the waterfalls, explore the river or just relax.

The town's proximity to both the coast and the mountains also makes it a perfect base from which to explore these remarkably diverse environments. You can be perched atop a rugged peak one day and sunning yourself on a golden beach the next.

The Bombala district is truly a hidden treasure where winding down will prove incredibly simple for even the most jaded visitor.
